What are the differences between formal and informal translation?
Translations are divided into formal and informal translations based on their authenticity and validity. The differences between official and unofficial translations are as follows:
Official translation: The translation of authentic and original documents is said to be completely consistent with the original version. Official translations are done by licensed translators. These translations are usually accompanied by the seal of the judiciary and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, thus confirming the translator’s authenticity. The activity of official translators in official translation agencies is licensed by the judiciary.
Authentic documents such as diplomas, work certificates, medical certificates, real estate documents and marriages often require official translation. In the apply process, applicants must have all their personal documents and educational documents, such as degree and grade, officially translated at the official translation agency.
Informal translation: A translation in which a text from any language is written in another language. Simply put, all translations that are not on the letterhead of the judiciaryare considered unofficial translations. Usually these documents are translated normally and the client documents are not officially translated for any reason. In this type of translation, this document is translated normally and the final translated version of the document is delivered without a letterhead, stamp and signature.
Examples of informal translations include specialized translations of books and texts, articles from Persian to English, and so on. Unofficial translation of a document, because it is not an official and authentic document, can not be approved and does not need to be approved. Documents such as informal grade or degree that cannot be translated will be included in this translation if necessary.
- The credibility of the official translation for submission to universities and embassies is certainly greater than that of the informal translation. Because the official translation will have legal and citation validity.
- In the official translation, the authenticity of the documents before the translation and its compatibility with the translation performed by the representative of the judiciary in the translation agency is checked.
- In the official translation, the translator does not have the right to make any analysis or swear an oath.
- After translating, the official documents will be provided in a sealed envelope.
